HOW IT WORKS

There are two parts to the United Way social innovation competition: The Vote and The Pitch. Five local entrepreneurs will compete for the prize money, awarded to their organizations based on online votes during The Vote from April 8-15 and their live performance at The Pitch on April 16.

THE VOTE

Use your email address to vote.

Voters may cast one vote each day from April 8 - 15.

Earn three extra votes each day during the online voting period by clicking on our social share icon buttons.

Tune into United Way’s Facebook Live on April 10, 12 and 15 to see which competitor won the prize.

See who will win the grand prize of $50,000 live on Facebook on April 16, or purchase a ticket to be there in person.

Every time you vote, you will receive an entry for a chance to win one of four prizes. For a full list of prizes and rules, click here.

THE VOTE PRIZE CRITERIA

APRIL 10 AWARD
Organization with the most votes between April 8-9 will win $5,000.

APRIL 12 AWARD
Organization with the most unique voters between April 10-11 will win $10,000.

APRIL 15 AWARD
Organization with the most social media reach between April 12-14 will win $10,000.

APRIL 16 AWARD
Organization with the most total votes will win $50,000.

THE PITCH

The five competitors pitch their ideas live, and then the judges and audience both cast votes to help decide who wins. The audience vote is weighted as the “7th judge”. At this event, three prizes totaling $150,000 will be awarded, including:

  • Title of Social Innovator of the Year who will win $75,000
  • 1st runner up will win $50,000
  • 2nd runner up will win $25,000
